Books and religious items available on site
Worth Abbey Bookshop is situated in the narthex of the Abbey Church and serves both the parish and the wider Christian community. It is used by visitors taking part in weekend, midweek and individual residential retreats, Quiet Fridays and anyone who comes to enjoy the stillness and solitude of the modern church and the Abbey’s ancient woodlands.
The shop offers a wide and varied range of religious and spiritual reading, especially titles which reflect the Benedictine ethos of the Abbey and books written by members of the the monastic community at Worth. Authors include C.S. Lewis and Thomas Merton and titles cover subjects ranging from contemplation and meditation to the most recent Vatican documents. There is also a small selection of children’s books and devotional booklets.
Greeting cards for religious occasions include sympathy and Mass cards from Quidenham Carmelite Monastery. CDs, which include Worth’s very own Chants for Saint Benedict, are also available. Aid to the Church in Need supplies the bookshop with olive wood holding crosses, rosary rings and rosary beads from the Holy Land and Burchells of Brighton Ltd. supplies St Benedict key rings, medals, small icons and crosses. Fr David in the monastery produces icons of St Benedict, Our Lady and other religious themes.
The shop is not staffed but is always open and payments can be made either by cheque/cash through the safe in the wall or by card on the card machine. Please come and visit us or if you have any questions contact email@example.com
